No use crying over spilled soymilk

Photobucket

Wow, so guess what happened to me this week? Its the first week of finals, I have my second 26 page paper due in 3 days, and my ENTIRE computer crashed. As in, hard-drive is completely wiped clean.

It all started the other day when I turned on my computer to find the screen replaced with a blinking question mark. "That's not good," I thought. And so it wasn't. I headed to my friendly neighborhood Apple Store to have it worked on, chastened, but still upbeat.

The Apple Store is increasingly reminding me of a doctor's office the more I go there. There are scared parents rushing in with cracked baby i-phones, ashamed dumbasses like me trying to sheepishly reveal our sketchy symptoms without mentioning that we don't use protection (back-up), and over-cautious newbies bringing their new macbook in because it merely froze. And meanwhile, the smug "geniuses" walk around saying "well, that's not good" and smirking at eachother while jangly hipster music plays in the background.

Well, actually, my "genius" was super nice and did all he could, but my hard-drive is gone, along with 16 lovely pages of my European Union law paper. *SIGH* I guess this is G-d's way of telling me that the last version was crap, and its time to try harder! I just wish my semester's worth of notes could have been salvaged...Oh yeah, and my 6,000 songs... *DOUBLE SIGH*.

At any rate, amidst all this madness I made some serious comfort food- Vegan Yum Yum's Mac & Cheeze. This was my first attempt at vegan mac & cheese, y'all! Can't believe I waited so long! It was way good. Even without the tomato paste or tahini, which I didn't have on hand. Toss in some roasted brussels sprouts and finals season, with its attendant computer woes, seems world's away...

Oh T that is horrible! I had that happen to me when I was an undergrad, in the middle of writing papers during finals week. Come to think of it though, it has been a really long time since I've backed up my stuff. Hmmmmmm...

I'm glad you are still managing to feed yourself well. Good luck with the finals and papers. You're going to need a good nap when its all over!

oh no! my ibook crashed about 6 months ago (with all my grad show photos on it), but luckily the apple people were able to salvage my hard drive. i'm so sorry about yours! that's like...the ultimate panic moment. i'm glad the mac n cheese made you feel better. now that you've had your first vegan mac n cheese, you will never, ever go back.

Yes indeed, I too have had similar computer days of doom... I do feel for you. In a few months you'll look back and say "I'm getting a lot of stuff on here I again, I really should back it up..." and maybe you'll have learned your lesson and maybe - like most of us, you'll keep putting it off until yet the NEXT crash of epic proportions... or the next... (whoever says Macs are crash-proof hasn't owned one - or two - or three...)...
Good luck!!

oh my goodness! sadface on your computer, losing your paper, your music, your hard-drive! eek! that stinks! i hope you're able to write a more glorious paper - and i am sure you will! :)

isn't mac 'n cheeze the best?!? it's one of my favorite comfort foods - and paired with brussels, too! that's a match made in heaven, right there! mmmmmmmm!

But that mac and cheeze looks superb!

Oh no! I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm experiencing some MAC problems too, and I've yet to try the Apple Store. First, I'm trying a computer nerd friend. But if that doesn't work...

At least, you're able to get past it and make some yummy food! I'm actually planning on making mac&cheeze and roasted brussels this week too! Seriously, it's already on my list. Weird!

Ack!

I am *so* sorry about your computer! I swear mine crashed every semester during law school, typically two weeks before finals - no joke. It almost feels like a death in the family or something...

Anyway, hopefully all is well with you now. I'm just sorry you had to suffer through that Appley-faux-hipster scene. Haha!

Best of luck with the paper - and with finals - you'll kick ass, I'm sure :)

oh shit, that's awful! my thoughts are with you and your dearly departed compy... and what a time to go, during finals. at least your mac and cheese looks scrumptious, I'm a total believer in those little corkscrews with cheezy sauce. and brussels rule!
